WE’RE BACK

What do the following individuals all have in common: “Magic” Johnson, Tom Brady, Muhammad Ali, and Michael Jordan? They're all athletes who retired from their sport only to turn around and un-retire later. Michael Jordan expressed his decision best: “I’m back.”
Minus the storied star-studded athletic career, my wife, Sharron and I kind of followed in the footsteps of these athletes and un-retired from our life of leisure. I retired from the Air Force in 1988 and from college teaching in 2000. Sharron retired from her IT job at Tinker AFB in 2012. Even though we record and watch Jeopardy every day, there’s only so much TV you can watch. In addition, I’m not very good at golf.
So, what did we do? We came out of retirement to open our own business - an Escape Room business. Though at times, we have both questioned our own sanity, we have found the Escape Room business to be both challenging and rewarding - just like the rooms themselves. The challenge comes with keeping all the electronic props working while repairing this and that to keep the rooms running. Adding to the challenge is our age - eighty (that’s me) and seventy-five (that’s my bride), but because we are both adventurous, we are having a blast! No rocking chairs in our plans anytime soon. After all, what could be more fun than an escape room?
The rewarding part of this business is knowing we have a part in putting smiles on people’s faces and excitement in their lives. We ourselves are uplifted when kids from 3 to 99 walk out the door laughing and talking about their escape room experience. We felt even more convicted of our place in people’s lives when we received a call one day from a mom expressing her appreciation for the enjoyment her daughter experienced during a tour of our facilities only about two months before she was murdered. It’s days like that when we get excited about making a difference.
Come check out our games and see if you don’t agree that this is one of the most fun things you have ever done. We think even Tom Brady and Michael Jordan would love our games.
Well written article by my husband Mel Stinnett about our decision to come out of retirement to open up Stealth Escape Games, Midwest City's first escape room.
